Vickie understands that we must continue the fight to ensure a quality, affordable healthcare system for the people of South Carolina. We must ensure access to health services for women and veterans, and fight against the opioid pandemic that plagues our state.
Vickie is the product of a public education. She will fight to ensure that we fully invest in our public schools, that teachers are paid and treated fairly, and that access to broadband is expanded. We must also provide mental health services and counselors to our students who need them.
Vickie will support and fight for investments in renewable energy and green opportunities that expand our economy, create jobs, and fight climate change. South Carolina must reduce its reliance on fossil fuels.
Vickie emphasizes that our infrastructure needs to stay ahead of growth rather than simply rely on temporary solutions. Our bridges, roads and overpasses must be equipped to withstand the increased use that added population creates. Vickie will support legislation that ensures the safety of roads, sidewalks, bridges and overpasses throughout the district.
Vickie fully believes in every woman’s right to choose, she will work to close the pay disparity between women and men - especially women of color, and she will support legislation that guarantees the protection and expansion of women’s rights in South Carolina.
UNIONS & WORKING FAMILIES
Vickie came from a working family. Her father was in the military and her mother was a public school teacher. Vickie herself was a single-parent and is a former union member of 42+ years. She will support any legislation that protects union workers and working families. She will fight for laws that expand workers’ rights and will not yield to anything less.
Vickie supports the Second Amendment, but stands firm in the belief that everyone should be free from the fear of gun violence. She is completely against arming teachers, will support common sense gun safety legislation, universal background checks, red flag laws, and will work to close loopholes for gun buyers.
Vickie understands the importance of our local businesses and the strive to attract new business owners and new industry. We must continue to support and invest in our small businesses, while also attracting new industry to stimulate our economy and create new jobs for our community.
